I have a top spec PC and an X-Box.
Which version of Indy Racing Series is the best to buy? Anyone know?
Downloaded the Demo and it runs perfectly fine at full res on my PC.
Huge dilema - play both systems equal ammount of time.
Don't have, or want a steering wheel.
Don't have broadband, so downloading the inevitable patches is a put off for
the PC version, but the ineviitable mods is a postivie mark in the pro
column for PC.
Any advise is gratefully received.
Buy the IndyCar Series on PC or Xbox?
Casey asked which version of Codemasters' IndyCar Series to buy, having no room for a wheel. Opinions split: the PC for updates and resolution, or the Xbox for gamepad play, and a dismissive remark about playing without a wheel drew rebukes citing aliens who once used joysticks. Casey bought the Xbox version and was pleased.
Automated summary.

If you're just going to buy one version, I'd say PC would be best for
the resolution, updateability (new word), and potentially greater
speed. Even though you don't have broadband, if something cool does
come out for the PC, you could at least download it overnight or such,
but you'd be stuck on the Xbox.
But if you find that you prefer to play stuff on the big screen, I
don't think you'll go wrong with the Xbox version. It'll be 640x480
but will at least have decent lighting and such. Personally I like
the flexibility of watching TV while racing on the PC, but that
doesn't stop me from hitting the Xbox as well...

On a side note... No wheel? Don't *want* a wheel? ;-) Playing the
demo with my steering wheel vs using a gamepad with the PS2 version is
absolutely night and day. Can hardly keep the silly thing going
straight on the PS2.

two reasons - firstly don't have room for a wheel (either storage, or even
when set up); secondly i used to have a wheel, but i found i usedt o hate
getting it out and setting it up, it was such a chore, that i ended up
avoiding the games which needed the wheel.
the PC demo played fine with a joypad
Casey, I run the demo with an old Gravis joystick (also used for GPL and
NASCAR 2003) and it works perfectly.
You won't need a wheel.

Definitely cool that you can get along good with a joypad, wish I
could do as well... Big hands, tiny controller... ;-)
Think you'll manage to be patient for the PC version, or going to snag
the Xbox one next week?

No shit. Without a wheel, do everyone a favor and stay with a console or
if you go PC, stay offline. No wheel? That is too funny.

The operative word being "Alien", of course.... Ian Lake started off with a
round bit of cardboard stuck to a potentiometer, but I still say a
reasonable quality wheel ius a big help to us mortals.

Aah. Are you trying to tell the young people of today that, and they
won't believe you!
And now for something completely different....
Hello, good evening and welcome to the Ronald Reagan Memorial Bowl, here
in the pretty little L.A. suburb of Hollywood. Well, we're about to go
in all for wrestling, brought to you tonight, ladies and gentlemen, by
the makers of Scum, the world's first ever combined hair oil, foot
ointment, and salad dressing. And the makers of Titan, the novelty
nuclear
missile! You never know when it'll go off! Surprise your friends, amuse
your enemies, start the party with a bang! Introducing, ladies and
gentlemen, tonight, all the way from a mudwrestling tour of the OPEC
countries...in the red corner:
Colin "Bomber" Harris!
...and, ladies and gentlemen, in the blue corner...all the way from a
mudwrestling tour of the OPEC countries...
Colin "Bomber" Harris!
John Cleese: Well, now, ladies and gentlemen, this is the first time
that Colin "Bomber" Harris has met himself. A few formalities now, any
moment we're out, we'll be ready for the start of Round One. There goes
the bell! Colin moves to the middle of the ring there, he's looking for
an opening, going for the handhold...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: He's got it! Into the headsqueeze...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: A headsqueeze there...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: A favorite...

Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: ...flying there...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: ...and already Colin is...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: ...working on that weak left knee of his!
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: A half nelson...a half nelson and a Philadelphia Hamilton
and Colin bit himself on purpose there, and he has been given a public
warning by the referee, and Colin did not like that one little bit!
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: Double overhead nostril...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: ...backkick and into the, ah, Boston crayfish, no, it's a
crawlfish, or is it a longestine, no, it's a longestine! A lovely move

Colin "Bomber" Harris! Swell! A lovely move there! And Colin must be
pretty pleased with himself having put himself up with that one! A
strawberry whip, a vanilla whip, a chocolate whip...there it is, Colin's
most famous hold: the one-neck-over-shoulder-Gerry Ford and Colin's in
real trouble! He's just made it to the rope...just a little lucky
there...
Colin "Bomber" Harris: Augh!
John Cleese: ...and there it is, a double Eydie Gorme, should be able to
twist...but he does...but he's looking pretty groggy...and I think he's
caught himself ----. Colin "Bomber" Harris has knocked himself out and
so he is the winner and he goes on next week to meet himself in the
final!

use the logitec wingman (with throttle control), seems to work fine for most
games i play - grand prix series, nascar 3 and 2003, toca
> Think you'll manage to be patient for the PC version, or going to snag

went for the x-box version.
very pleased.
the analogue triggers work really well as accelrator and brake, plus the
right thumstick is the gears - which is the first time i've used the gears
like that and it really works well.
love the game, a real challenge, for me, even on the easier levels.
right balance of playability and difficulty (easing off the throttle the
right amount on turn 2 at pheonix had me hooked on the game.)
the AI seems pretty good.
depending on the extra features the PC version has, this may be next months
game purchase also!
