I just picked up F1 2002. I need some help with the sensitivity setting and dead zone settings. I use an ECCI wheel and pedals connected to a USB converter. I don't use any driving aids except automatic clutch. When I first installed the game using the defaults the car was completely uncontrollable. What are you guys using for settings. Also, are there any official patches out for the game? What other advice do you have for settings? Thanks is advance, John

There is tons of threads on this. Search with google groups for F1 2001 and controllers and haqsau and dxtweek2. Any of those should give you tons of info about your controllers. Generally, set your axis sliders to 50%. Your deadzones to zero. Your steering sensitivity to zero and if the cars are too nervous, reduce the steering lock in your car setups. dave henrie
Thanks for the fast reply Dave. I didn't think to try a search on F1 2001. It did return a few hits. I have invested about three quality hours (I am an IT manager who lives and dies by Usenet), searching the web and usenet and still haven't been successful in improving play within the game. I did try your recommendations and it didn't seem to help at all. All except for the steering sensitivity that is. I couldn't find it. Do you mean the X axis sensitivity? Also what are these Rx and Ry type axises? I saw somewhere that they are used if you are using a split-axis controller. Like I said earlier. I have a pretty high end (but older) ECCI wheel and pedals. I just installed 250 OHM pots and a new wiring harness to upgrade it to the newest standard that ECCI offers. Another question, I read that the "controller rates" only apply to keystrokes. Do you know whether this is the case or not? Also, I tried some of Haqsau suggestions and no luck as of yet. Any more help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. The game is still at the unplayable state. If it's not working by the end of the upcoming weekend I will just remove it from my system. I'd hate to miss out on a good game. Thank you, John
well, F12001 was unplayablme (at least for me) and F12002 is "barely OK". THe steering lock is located inside each setup. So if you go to the pits and load the France setup, it's in those screens. THe default is around 20%. I went as low as 12 % but worked my way back up to aroun 16- 18% at most tracks. The Speed sensitivity is on the same screens as the keyboard settings. Basically this slows down your inputs at high speeds. If you use the lower steering lock percentages, you won't need this. I zero that one out. The X axis is usually the left/right steering axis. 50% is full linear, like moving the GPL slider full left or the n2kx slider full right. If you set the percentage to less than 50%, you will get decreased response at one end of your inputs(I forgot which so I'll be vague here) either it's the lower the the percentage, the less response you get as the wheel reaches its limits, or the less response you get around the center. If you set the slider to 99% and drive it...then go back and set it to 01% you should see the difference. 50% is Haqsau's recomendation. Next those pesky rx rz etc axis. Those will be assigned only if your equipment supports them. So go to the controller options and assign your gas, brake, steering and any wheel buttons you have. Make note of which axis the game reports when you press on the throttle and brake pedals. This will tell you which sliders you need to adjust. The ONLY deadzone I use is on brake axis..to make sure my brake pedal isn't dragging slightly...not fun to rip down a long straight in a Ferrari and have a pokey Midardi flash by. Finally BEFORE you start all this, go to the logitech site and dload the utility dxtweek2. This will help to properly sort out your controllers AND zero out window's built in 05% deadzone before you attempt to get the INGAME controllers figured out. This is where Haqsau's usenet posts will really come in handy. He dug through the settings to find what worked properly. Hopefully you can find more info on those tips. Maybe he has a collection of them squirreled away somewhere. dave henrie Do

We have never officially pinned this one down. I think the general opinion is, yes...keystrokes only, but hey...try messing with them..it might just free things up for you. > Also, I tried some of Haqsau suggestions and no luck as of yet. > Any more > help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. That would be a shame. The game DOES have some real shortcommings, especially in multiplayer...but I'm running online with two pretty good groups right now, so it can be worthwhile.(but that is a whole 'nother page of hints and tips :> ) The various mods make it hugely variable. The FIA sportscars, Alfa touring cars, champcars, and LeMans prototypes are comming with 50 car fields...find a way to make it work. :) dave henrie > > Thank you, > John > >
Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea what it takes to get an ECCI to work. Now, perhaps if someone would send me one I could figure it out... ;o) "Dave Henrie" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Could you be a little more specific? Maybe we can help if we know more about what the problem is. "John E. Crouse" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:KOc6a.236986$[email hidden]... > > When I first installed the game using the defaults the car was completely > uncontrollable.
Also dont forget the axis centre values in your .plr file I cant remember which is which, but they cured my linearity problems with my Momo FF If all your travel as shown on the gauge, is all in one half of your controller that's where you need to look. Well, I seem to have gotten it. I upgraded the wiring harness in my wheel. Now I can run split-axis. I set it up in windows and it works good in the game. I set the axis sliders to 50%, the deadzones to 0 and am currently playing with the speed sensitivity. What are you guys using for this setting. I doesn't seem to effect much for me. I have tried the entire range. Also, what is Craig talking about in his reply when he say the axis center values in the plr file. Is this just a FF thing or should I take a look at this. What needs done here? Oh, I was also running with AA turn on in my video settings and that was making the steering response lag about a second or so which was adding to the steering issues. Thanks for all the replys, John
It affects the centre of travel, my pedals were both inactive for the first half of their travel as shown on the controller graphic, like a massive deadzone. If yours work over the full travel then these are OK already They are in the [ Controls ] section of your .plr file, I cant remember which one refers to which axis though. Craig "John E.
