RASCAR: Daytona Speeds

Which NR2003 setup RASCAR should use at Daytona

RASCAR drivers compared Daytona lap times with NR2003's fast and Jasper setups, finding the Jasper setup slower and prone to pushing into the wall out of turn 4 for some. Ed Solheim quoted the Jasper guide explaining the setups came from the real race shop. Some preferred Bob Stanley's setup, but John Simmons said it was too late to change for the first race.

Using the Jasper setup, and in the draft. I was getting 46.2xx. Alone on the track, I got a 48.018 after running five laps. Eldred - we may have to use the Jasper setups instead of <fast>.
I've been able to hit low 45s in the draft, using the fast setup. Thats running the AI at 100%, 70d The big difference between these two setups is the push in the turns with the Jasper setup. If the Fast setup is too loose we can either lower the temp, or run a modified setup. I know how you feel about that but that Jasper setup will reek havoc in RASCAR imo. -- Tim White www.intracmotorsports.com "John Simmons" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]... I just did some laps in testing and my times are: Fast 48.644 Jasper 49.036 In traffic with AI at 101% and fast setup 45.194 At even 100%, and starting at the back of the field, the field just pulls away from me when I use the Jasper setup. Can't even stay with them. With the fast setup, I can start at the back and slowly pick my way through towards the front. Huge difference. Are you sure you did a 48.018 with the Jasper setup alone in testing? The fast setup was a couple of mph faster all around the track than the Jasper setup in testing for me. Unlike Tim though (if I read his post correctly), in testing I found the Jasper setup easier than the fast setup to place on the line and hold. No push at all. The Jasper setup would probably make for a safer race, but I'd still prefer the fast setup myself. As I said to John, I didn't feel any push in the Jasper setup at all. Stuck it right on the low line with no problem. Strange how these setups feel different to people. I still prefer the fast setup though. To be honest, if we can't have a good race at Daytona in RASCAR with the fast setup then it's because of the drivers, not the setup (of course that now means I'll do something completely boneheaded on Sat.). I don't think you want to commit totally to the Jasper setups. The Jasper Watkins Glen set up has something like 28:1 steering. Not good, unless you are a joystick user or something. I find it hard to believe they can use that in real life. I think I know what the problem is. By default, the driving aids are on. I think we're comparing apples and oranges. With anti-lock brakes, steering assist, and stability control ON, the Jasper setup pushes (and only a little). I don't really see how comparing speeds against the AI is a valid comment on the viability of a setup. We won't be racing against the AI. We REALLY need to run a practice race with some people running one setup, and some running another, and then compare.
RE: Jasper setups: > > > I don't have a problem with the jasper setups. > > > > > > Whatever we do, we should pick it and stick with it. From the Jasper-guiide on the CD (dont ask!): "In NASCAR Racing 2003 Season, you'll find a "Jasper" setup for each track. These setups come largely from the last couple of years of our race shop. They are representative of current setup thinking in Winston Cup racing. I' ve modified them somewhat so that I'm not 'selling the farm" on our best Ideas. I've also tested each of them for drivability in your game. I do not consider them "optimum"setups for the game; they're simply representative of what a real team might plausibly run." -- ed_

At 60 degrees and sunny, 198 MPH laps are common at Daytona, while last year it was more like 192. I did some more testing and lowered the lap times a bit. Fast 48582 Jasper 48984 I also tried Bob Stanley's setup and did a 48485. They are here http://mywebpages.comcast.net/davegf/ if someone wants to take a look. The Jasper and BS setups handle a bit better than the fast setup, but the Jasper is much slower than the fast and BS. John, if you definitely did a did a 48.018 with the Jasper setup in testing then please take a look and tell me what's going on. Don't see how you could be almost a second faster with that Jasper setup. BS's qualifying setup only does a 47.6 according to his notes (I did a 47.7 my first try with it). If the Jasper setup is faster than the fast setup then I'd definitely say let's use it for the RASCAR race. This shouldn't be news to anyone, but the best way to tell which one handles the best and is the most stable is to put on the ideal line and then try to straddle the line through the corners over 20 laps or so, then review the results in the replay. You've got proof then. David G Fisher "David G Fisher" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

John, I have all that stuff turned off and at least on my system the Jasper setup at Daytona is almost undriveable, especially out of turn 4. It will shove up into the wall almost every time. Which brings me to my question earlier. Why did they bother? IMHO, the Jasper setups are a BAD idea unless we form a committe to tune them properly. In other words, FAST setups have worked fine for us in the past. We should stick with them. I'm ashamed to say I may have started this mess. I should have kept my mouth shut until I worked with them more. Sorry, guys :) Larry "Ed Solheim" <edwins[_REMOVE_]@[ _THIS_]online.no> wrote in message news:rZC1a.20936$[email hidden]...

Dave, Try this experiment. Load up a 42 car field. Set the AI to 98 or 99. Do not qual, and start the race from the back. You'll push up into the wall before 5 laps are over. Then you're not doing it right. :)
I found both the jasper and the fast setup to push like a tank out of t4. Seriously, it pushed from lap 1 and would go straight into the wall. Finally found Bob Stanley's setups (the man is a setup god) and was finally able to hold a line. I think RASCAR should consider running his setup for Daytona, otherwise we are going knock down the wall in t4. Brian Oster On Mon, 10 Feb 2003 18:31:51 GMT, "Larry" <[email hidden]> wrote:

Sometimes when I'm suspicous of a fixed setup, I'll actually save it under a new name (you can do that) and then later compare it to the true FAST setup in the game. When running a fixed race, all it says is "FIXED SETUP" in the Garage. You never really know what the setup is actually from. No problem. I realize the problems of trying to switch setups at the last minute. Some people might find Bob's setups a little too loose or unstable anyway... I love his Daytona setup, does not push at all, but you have to be careful with it. Brian On Wed, 12 Feb 2003 11:02:07 GMT, John Simmons <[email hidden]> wrote:

I'm with you Brian, I really like Bob's Daytona setup. Like it's on a rail compared to Fast but if you do pull hard left for whatever reason she will get really loose. Gearing kind of odd for me but I can tweak to my likes. Hopefully the inside line outta 4 will give room to the guys on the outside. The gearing is the one part of the Jasper Daytona setup that feels pretty good.
