GTR2002 problems

A friend just downloaded GTR2002 but were having a problem. The install went just fine but when we fire up GTR2k2 it just stops at the Pre-race menu. The screen is black but we can see the GTR2002 cursor but nothing else. I looked on the simmod forums but none of the possible solutions worked. F1-2002 work just fine. We tried the Rungtr.exe but I believe it hangs because there is no driver? Any ideas? His spec are P4-1.4 GF3-ti200 SBlive. Mitch

One other note: Tried det4 30.82's then jumped to 42.51 with the same results. My install went as follows. 1. F1-2002. Install went ok. He then ran F1-2002 creating a driver in the process. 2. Installed GTR2002 1.0. Install went fine. Didn't run it. 3. Ran 1.2 patch. Install ok. When he runs the game his Pre-Race menu is all black but the GTR2002 cursor does show up. I'm not sure if this will help, but try running 3DConfig. It should be found in the F1 2000 start menu. Kent Mitch_A wrote:

Tried many different resolutions on both desktop and 3dconfig. F1-2002 run fine at res from 640x480 (both 16 and 32 bit and at frequencies from 60hz to 120hz) up to 1600x1200. It's almost like the res of the pre-race menu is super low. Like 320x240, You only see a small portion of the menu and because the window cannot be resized (I hadnt thought of alt-enter) you only see black. The cursor is quite large BTW. Bear in mind I can't actually see this problem cause he's across the country, it's a description from a newb over the phone so some of my descriptions may be fuzzy. Thx Mitch "Kent R. How about the font size? I don't know if it was fixed in 1.2, but in the early releases a large window font made it crash. Mitch, make sure he doesn't have large fonts enabled in windows. greetings Johan

The pre-game menu is looking for a .PLR (player) file. Version 1.0 of GTR2002 automatically created one but 1.2 just shows a black screen if it can't find a .PLR file. You can create a new player by running F1 2002 and then copying the player folder from the 'Save' folder into the 'GTR2002Save' folder. Voila.

It really should say in the readme that you need to run GTR before applying the 1.2 patch....

Thanks for all the help guys! Problem solved. Turned out to be the driver profile in the gtr2002save folder was hosed..
