Hey guys, I could use a little advise here. My GF wants to buy her son a set of 4.1 surround speakers as a Christmas gift for her son, but she doesn't want to spend over $100 American if she can help it. They will be plugged into a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card and used primarily for gaming and listening to mp3's. Any ideas as to what speakers would be half way decent in this price range? I realize that at this price point that sound quality won't be dazzling, but it should still be a big step up from the pos set up that he's using right now. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. TIA -- See ya in the pits, Dean I have a terrible memory. In fact my memory's so bad I can't remember how long it's been since I've forgotten anything.

Check the z560 logitech, could be found for $150 or so. I know its higher than $100, but well worth it if it can fit in the budget. Z560 with TB Santa Cruz Side note, these get very loud and boomy, might not be a good choice for a kid if she is in the house. Headphones might be another thought. I use sennheiser hd570 for gaming, very nice sound. The woman doesn't like my z560s too much heh. http://castle.pricewatch.com/search/search.idq?qc=%22Z560%22*+AND+%40totalco st%3E0&cr=z560&ne=8213&l=8167 for pricing info online "DTP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:NixI9.10127$[email hidden]... > Hey guys, I could use a little advise here. Thanks for your help guys. The Logi Z560's were my first choice but she's pretty much locked in to that $100 price point, so it looks as though the Creative jobbies just might get the nod. -- See ya in the pits, Dean I have a terrible memory. Here's something else I picked up to go with the speakers. http://www.americas.creative.com/products/product.asp?product=74 It's called the Creative Surround Station and it puts the two rear speakers above and behind your head - then folds up behind your monitor when you're not using it. If you look at the picture you'll see the platform where the monitor sets. My 21" Trinitron fits perfectly. Pretty cheap now for $49.99. - Dave "DTP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:Z2GI9.10880$[email hidden]...

You can get decent speakers at that price, but what you won't get is power. I'm not sure what they cost these days, but look at the Logitech 400 watt set. I believe it was the 560's or 580's? They were around $150 the last time I looked. Maybe they are cheaper now that Logitech has come out with a mega-wattage 5.1 set (680's, I believe). Personaly, I use Klipsch ProMedia 5.1's, but at $400 they are certainly NOT in that price range. Neither are the new Logitech's @ $400. -Larry "DTP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:NixI9.10127$[email hidden]... > Hey guys, I could use a little advise here. Check the connections on those Creatives VERY carefully. Creative tends to match the connectivity to their own sound cards. Make sure that it will connect to the Santa Cruz ok... -Larry "DTP" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:CbII9.11022$[email hidden]...
