Notable threadBugbear announces FlatOut

Bugbear car lead artist Ilari Lehtinen announced FlatOut, which would use a refined version of Rally Trophy's physics engine. He confirmed online multiplayer and said the game was about racing rather than demolition despite its crash-heavy promotion. Posters were interested but sceptical of its console-oriented wording, and some asked for a Group N Rally Trophy instead.

Looks potentially fun and interesting. It mentions improvements in the graphics engine over Rally Trophy, but what is happenning in the physics department? Ian -- Ian Riches GPL Rank +1.76 Monsters of GPL +284.19
It actually uses a refined and even more accurate version of RT's physics engine beneath everything. :) -Ilari "Ian Riches" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:[email hidden]...

Looking forward to it, RT was a pretty decent first effort even though it didn't quite live up to my expectations, but then again I have high expectations :-) Pretty good choice of racing too, the "poor man's Rallycross", it's something that most people in Europe can identify themselves with and the racing is intense Beers and cheers (uncle) Goy "The Pits" http://www.theuspits.com/ "A man is only as old as the woman he feels" --Groucho Marx--
AY CARAMBA :) In danish this is called "folkers" directly translated to "peoplesracing".... there is a small dirttrack close to all midsize towns here and we love this cheap and dirty approach to racing. Let's get it on ;) Mikkel Gram-Hansen http://www.racesimcentral.com Ilari Lehtinen <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aq840a$rj7$[email hidden]...

*applause* I like the concept. If you can improve the realism if only a tiny bit and make the career mode truly compelling, this could quite possibly be my favorite sim for a long time to come. Er, that is, I mean, it's no GPL, but it could be good. =) Jason

Can you make Group N Rally Trophy after this? I'm dying to try out an EVO or WRX in your physics engine :) Thanks, Alex "Ilari Lehtinen" <[email hidden]> wrote in message news:aq840a$rj7$[email hidden]...

Agreeeed! I'm a HUGE fan of Rally Trophy, and I would have loved to see an expansion pack involving WRC cars. This new game looks really fun too, although I am completely unfamiliar with what it's trying to simulate. What I read on the site mostly mentioned direct link consoles and splitscreen. How about online play over the net? Looking at the animated website gif, I thought the game was how far you could punt the 50gallon barrels...... dave :) henrie

I understand your worry, but main emphasis in Flat-Out does stand on racing, not demolition. Crashes look cool because they "feel" and behave realistically. And hey, people like them so why not advertize them :) -Ilari "Ed Solheim" <edwins[ REMOVE ]@[ THIS ].no> wrote in message news:l9Ay9.1164$[email hidden]...

With an arcade-type, unrealistic damage model, forcing big spectacular crashes may well prove to be a race-winning strategy, and "racing" as I understand it will likely not exist. With a realistic damage model, the effects of car-to-car contact will likely end in early retirement, not the winner's trophy. Please say there will be (at least the option of) realistic damage? how many simultaneous players will this game support via Internet? Will there be an open community platform for hosting races like VROC or will are you planning another gameSpyWare lockin? Just curious. I think this title could be great fun online with 20 or more players on a tiny dirt track.
