Overpriced ECCI wheel listing and FFB versus non-FFB

A link to an eBay listing for an ECCI wheel and pedals drew mockery about its price for a non-force-feedback wheel. The discussion became an exchange on whether force feedback is essential, with several long-time TSW and non-FFB users saying they did not miss it and others turning theirs down.

You won't sell it at that price.

Who in their right mind would pay that sort of money for something that doesn't even have FFB?
Yep. You could buy 3 G27s for that! "David G Fisher's Left Testicle" <dfg.myass@aol> wrote in message news:pPnnn.313183$[email hidden]...

So you've never even tried it?

I tried FFB,with the red momo.Thought I couldn,t live without it,but bought a TSW2 anyway. I wouldn't go back to the plastic wheels again.

The working parts in the red Momo are all metal. The TSW2 uses a bit of bungee cord from what I remember.

I owned a TSW2 stock for a long time too and despised those plasticky ff wheels, I only gave up on it when I couldn't manage to convert the gameport model to a decent USB connected one (even tried the Beta Innovations board, but the resulting resolution was just too low for my tastes). The g25 / 27 isn't half bad for half the price, though, and I couldn't live without ff these days. I still use the tsw pedals for rudder control in flightsims. I know it's overkill, but they're nice and sturdy and will probably last until the heat death of the universe from their feel. uwe

I have used an old thrustmater on NFS:PU, but that was the last time. It add's something, but not g forces or any illusion thereof, so I don't bother.

Did once, on a Sidewinder FF wheel, but found it kind of tiring to wrestle the wheel the whole time. I like me wheels light and responsive. Not having dual axis pedals was a much bigger handicap back then. (And although rumbling over the kerbs seemed ok, found the FF not particularly immersive. Maybe if I'd also integrated a Buttkicker or somesuch ;) Anyway, never really felt the need to have it. Nice extra, but for me that's about it. As long as I can *hear* (and to some extent, see) I'm going over the kerbs or the like, I don't particularly mind.

The FFB on that felt great and really added to the experience. But since I upgraded to a G25, although the wheel itself and the pedals are excellent, I've never felt happy with the FFB. So I have it dialled back. At the right time and place (eg losing traction at the crest of a hill) the FFB *really* adds to the experience, and it can be a big help feeling the car starting to get away from you. But overall I think racing in front of a screen relies far more on visual and aural clues than the potentially laggy FFB. It's part of the window dressing rather than essential. However it's great window dressing when it works well and at risk of reminding everyone what a low-grade sim racing wannabe I am, in NFS:Shift I love the FFB on my G25, and find it really satisfying. I have the FFB turned down on my G25 also. Best thing I have done was adapt the wheel from my race car to bolt onto the G25 base in place of the mini wheel it comes with.

I've had the same TSW for near on ten years now, maybe more. I had it converted to USB last year and I don't miss FFB one bit (I've never used it). The wheel is as sturdy as the day I bought it and shows no signs of the important bits wearing out. I've got close to $600 in it now between the original purchase and the USB upgrade, but spread out over time, I'd have probably bought at least three lesser wheels by now, so it's money even in my eyes.
