(besides GTR 2002?)
what do you think will be the next sim thats really worth waiting for?
Which upcoming sim is worth waiting for
Jeffrey asked what the next big racing sim would be. Suggestions included NASCAR Racing 2003 as Papyrus's last NASCAR title, Live for Speed, Racing Legends, Codemasters' Race Driver and IRL game, Dirt Track Racing 2 and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2. Many were pessimistic, and posters debated whether EA would continue its F1 series.

LFS :)
or RL (yes i know, but have faith!)

I'd say NASCAR Racing 2003 Season followed by Live for Speed and hopefully
Racing Legends.

Well overall I'd say it looks pretty bleak myself, but if I had to pick
1) NR2003 - I don't think it will be much better than NR2002 just more
fluff. However its the last of the line which means it could have a very
long life like GPL
2) LFS- Even though I'm not that impressed with it myself.
3) Racing Legends- If it ever happens.
For me the biggest thing to wait on will be hard ware upgrades. I think once
I max out my current motherboard I'll have a hard time justifying any major
spending.

Race Driver *might* come good, and (outsider's bet) Codemasters' take on
'IRL'.
> what do you think will be the next sim thats really worth waiting for?
In terms of a significant step forward like GPL in 98, I would say the only
likely contender is Racing Legends. Sure it has to live up to its promise as a
hardcore racing sim, and plenty here doubt if the project will succeed, but in
terms of who is going to produce the next "big one" I see little other prospect.

This week - Dirt Track Racing 2
Februrary - Nascar 2003
Next spring - f1 2003
Dunno of anything worthwhile coming out. I'll possibly get NT2003
despite every reason not to.

Good call. I forgot about the IRL game. After watching the last few IRL
races I'd move that to the top of my list. If the online racing is as good
as a Papy game that could be a ton of fun.

Slightly embarrassed to admit amongst all you hardcores, but I'm looking
forward to Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 in Mid-Oct.

For me its NR2003. The final in a long great run by Papy. Until someone
can outdo their realism and networking code it will be hard to beat.
Looking forward to any new racing sims that can offer good online league
play, maybe the new IRL will give us just that.

One that we don't even know about yet, that jumps out at us the way
Rally Trophy did.

Somebody said that they were done with F1 because they were going to
focus on NASCAR Thunder. Personally, I think the use of the F12k2
engine in NT should indicate that EA is quite happy with the F1 series
and will continue it. I think the person who said they were finished
with F1 assumed that ISI developed NT, when in fact they just supplied
the base engine to Tiburion.

Need for Speed : Porsche Unleashed has a great cockpit view. I think the
original also had a cockpit view.

I have read an unverified statement about the demise of the EA F1 series in
an article that was mainly about the closing of Microprose UK. (Sorry --
didn't bookmark it.)
It would be really interesting to know what EA's licensing deal is. Here's
a likely scenario: The deal ran for three years, and when it was time for
renewal, someone (with the initials B.E.) got a bit greedy... :)

The answer is yes: NFS2 SE. It was the first NFS title with hardware
accelerated 3D graphics, and the cocpit view was dropped probably
because they didn't bother to do a 3D cocpit...

Good point. So close to release though, and I have not seen one screenshot from
the cockpit for NFSHP2. It could be great fun if they use the NFSPU physics.

If they used the same basic engine as PU then it could be cool. Nothing
like getting drunk and running from the cops. :) And the best part is no
real jail when you loose.

Good. The great thing about the NFS series is the breathtaking graphics.
NFSPU still easily holds it's own against today's driving sims so NFSHS2
should set a new standard for graphics that all others sims will be measured
against.
