I get about the same numbers, but only real slow down is at the start.
Mirror or not, detail, texture size and resolution seem to have fairly
little impact. Wheel / FF related problem?

I just tried turning off mirrors - wow, it never drops below 70fps with
mirrors off.  Drops to around 50fps with them on.

S/f line and approach to T1 is where I get the biggest hit. Also long
straight after first chicane. Graphic settings don't seem to make any
difference to me either. I tried playing the game with the mouse last night
to see if it was the wheel (Ferrari FF) but the fps were the same.

I was racing online earlier with Doug, Steve, and Brian and I had to have
the mirror off. Fps were 35-50. I used the rear view (r key) which was ok
since it comes into view very fast. I can get a quick glimpse of the guy
behind me as I approach a turn. Best solution for now I guess.

P3 866 GF2 GTS here. The mirrors are costing me about 10fps, but the
AI cars are costing me a huge fps also. With 2-3 cars I get a very
nice average of around 40fps, but with all the AI cars on I get around
20fps, making it unplayable. Messing around with all the gfx options
doesn't seem to help a lot, it seems this baby needs more cpu power
instead of graphics power..

Just had a race with 3 AI cars and the sweat is still on my back,
bumping each other from the start to the finish.. damn what a superb
sim :)

Yea, that was fun. Had some great racing again tonight with Mitch A. and
some others too. Eventually the game locked up, but I still got in about 20
races. ***ing is the word.

With 7 AI cars, it drops down to 35fps at the first corner....

I just tried it on my work PC (shh!) and it slowed down dramatically.  It's
a P4 2.0GHz with 512MB PC2100 and a GF4 MX440 (DDR) and it dropped to
5-10fps at the first corner...

I'm guessing that from what David said, it needs better P4/SSE2
optimization.

Cheers

I think it's something on your box.  My play machine is spec'd similar
(2.2Gig, GF3ti500) and I get no noticable slowdowns.  I run at 1024X768
latest det's.  Could it be the curse of the GF4-MX?

Me neither, but I've just tested with frame rate visible (I used fraps)
and was surprised that sometimes my frame rate's in the high ***s, low
20s, and the mirror does eat quite a few fps. Unlike GPL frame rate dips
don't seem to be a problem though, which is why I commented earlier in the
thread about not having any problems. The number of cars does seem to
matter a lot though... not surprisingly given the excellent graphics and
that fact that the "F" view seems to show all cars getting the full
physics treatment.

You use Fraps because the ingame fps meter is inaccurate..?

No, because I was too lazy to find out where the in-game fps display is
:o)

Ok, so I just noticed where the in game fps indicator is. I'm a slow
learner, what can I say? In my defence I'd say it's a pretty cluttered
display, looking forward to switching some of that stuff off... especially
that "riding with Andrew McP" which keeps flashing up. I sort of knew that
already :o)
