GPL : Lap times not registered?

by argh » Sat, 01 Jul 2000 04:00:00

Hello,

Last night I was driving at the Watkins Glen track and did manage
to get a reasonable time (for my level, I consider 1.07.19 reasonable) to
start comparing
the replays with the faster drivers to start improving the time.

So I cut and saved the lap from replay and posted my times to GPLRank (did
some improvement
on Rouen too) and took a quick look at the rankings.
My time at the Glen was still showing 1.09.xx !!
I started GPL again and went to see Fastest Laps, and yes. There is the old
record of 1.09.xx!

So my question:
Is this common, and how to avoid it?
My best lap was the last one I drove on that session and was seen on the
pitboard and at the
fastest laps list on the track as well as in the replay.

I wouldn't like to loose my 7.xx.xx time on the Ring!

Time out!  Your best at the Glen is 1:07, and you're below 8 minutes at the
Ring?

Something doesn't seem quite right here.

Looks like a typo, he has a handicap of +92.93, and with a sub 8-lap
at the ring that would mean he is off by 8-10 seconds on every other
track. It's probably a sub 9 minute lap.

I think it was a joke. He missed out "if I ever get one". Finns I've met
have a slightly off-centre sense of humour. Like we Brits.

It was a joke wasn't it, Jyrki? Please!

Tony Whitley
who still hasn't found out if putting a squash ball under the *throttle*
pedal is a joke.

I'll try a n y t h i n g  if it will save a few seconds at the 'Ring!

Hi, Tony

Try putting a brick under your throttle pedal.  You won't be fast, but it
will do wonders for your consistency!  ;-)

Hello,

Yes oh Yes!
I missed out something like "Like I'm ever going to get one".
BUT, if I did, I wouldn't like to see it disappearing and never seen again,
while
I continue running steady 9:30's...

Actually I think some really do this utilization.
Cannot be used on my Ferrari pedals, though.

I must have missed this post.
But as said, _If_ I do a _really_ good laptime, I would like to keep it.

Jyrki Laine
GPLRank dropping currently, while Silverstone pb improves by second after

Really? You think so? I've got one in the garden somewhere.

I have lost times like this when GPL crashes as you
click on the red square and you get dumped back to
windows. It's a good idea, if you are doing hot laps,
to quit GPL very carefully* and copy your player.ini onto
a floppy and your hard drive for eventual upload to
GPLRank right after you get a new best lap.
*by this I mean you must say a silent prayer to BILL G.
as you click your mouse.

Hello,

Just think what you could do with a Eagle or a Lotus! :-o

Yea yea, got your point...

I'm hoping to some day do the same (not with the kbd, though. Haven't used
kbd since Stunt car racing and Indy 500)
but for me it seems like a difficult track.
Even if it is short, it takes a while to learn.
At least for me.
I can do steady low 1.08's or a bit under now, but need to invent something
new
to get to even low 1.07 or under.

GPL : Lap times not registered?

Absolutely not! Yesterday I was hotlapping on the Ring. I have a
squashball under my brake pedal fastened with double-sided tape.
At the end of the lap, the squashball suddenly came lose, followed
immediately by a crash from me. Without the squashball I really have
no feeling while braking. (I use the CH pedals by the way).

Double-sided tape works, but it's not the nicest solution. Anybody
found a better way to keep the squashball under the pedal?

Andre
