Nvidia prices!

  from the pcgamer website :

Today, nVidia announced an aggressive new pricing strategy designed to make
their products more competitive with other budget-conscious video cards from
different companies. They also lowered the price on their much anticipated
flagship product, the GeForce3, from $499 to $399. New products include the
GeForce2 MX 200, the GeForce2 MX 400 and the new retail GeForce2 Pro.

The GeForce2 MX 200 is aimed squarely at the value segment of the market. At
$99, the GeForce2 MX 200 is configured with 175MHz core clock and 166MHz
memory clock along with 32MB of SDR RAM. At $129, the GeForce2 400 ups the
core clock to 200MHz, has a total of 64MB SDR RAM and includes the VGA/NTSC
TwinView for dual monitor support on one video card. Finally, the $199
GeForce2 Pro has a 200MHz core clock and a 200MHz memory clock along with
64MB DDR RAM.

thats some good news...

Those prices are approaching being 'reasonable' at last.  It makes you
wonder how much money nVidia and the board manufacturers have been making if
they can afford such huge reductions and still make profits.  I paid about
the equivalent of >$350 for a 32MB GF2 GTS, and now the 64MB Pro is $199.

Oh well, it's at least good news to see the GF3 coming down to around 300
(GBP) or a little over.

And I just bought a new GF2 last week. Maybe I should return it and
buy again in a couple of weeks.

if you read the whole report you'll find the new geforce2mx isnt really
quicker than the old one.... memory band width seems to be the problem.....

blown.

One of you should buy a kyro2, and tell us how it does in GPL with full
detail and 2x and 4x fsaa at say 1024x768, in a full field monza start.  If
it can't maintain 36fps at all times there, then I guess I'll be keeping
this voodoo3 til the radeon2 or something comes out heehee.

The GeForce Pro 64MB I bought early in the month is now $100 cheaper.

The Athlon 1.2(266) processor I bought at the beginning of the month is now
$100 cheaper.

Oh, well :)

Of course, NOTHING I want right now has dropped in price.  Do these jackals
have some sort of spying device on me ?

Well, they are trying to be the only Graphics Card company left.  Gotta have
_some_ way to fill out the catalog :)

And I still intend to buy the Hercules/Guillemot 4500 Kyro2-based
board when it finally comes out...  seems like a steal for $150 based
on the reviews at Anandtech and Tom's Hardware...

(my only current games are Rogue Spear and Mechwarrior 4...  RS runs
fine on my setup - 8mb ATI + 2 12mb Voodoo2's in SLI - but Mech4 is
choppy as all hell...  last car sim I had was Nascar 1...  last flight
sim I had was SWOTL...  but I still lurk on c.s.i.p.g.flight-sim and
r.a.s)

CD?  Mine was on 3.5" floppies  :-)  Was from the LucasArts Air
Classics series that contained BH1942, BOB:1940, and SWOTL.  First
game I bought for my 486...

I wondered if anyone would catch that.  The first copy I bought was on 3.5's.
I later found a version on CD that had the add-on missions/planes.  The install
on it never worked, but I could just copy the needed directories...<g>  I
bought each of the ones you mentioned as soon as they came out, and
waited(endlessly, it seemed) for the next...
