  • 3D sound cards and F1RS audio problems 1998-06-01 · 26 posts
Users of Ensoniq AudioPCI, Turtle Beach Montego, Diamond MX80 and other Aureal A3D cards reported stuttering engine sounds and wheel spiking in F1 Racing Simulation's 3D sound mode. The workaround found was to use Ubisoft's original SOUND3D patch rather than the later DirectSound patch. A Ubisoft technician reportedly said no further fix would come.
  • Best sound card for racing sims 2003-02-17 · 42 posts
Igor asked for sound card recommendations. Many avoided Creative cards because of driver problems, especially GPL crackling under Windows XP, and recommended the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz or Hercules cards, while others praised nForce2 onboard sound. The thread drifted into memories of first sound cards and Amiga and Atari machines.
  • Best sound card to replace an SB Live 2002-12-16 · 20 posts
A user with infinite-loop crashes asked for a better sound card than his SB Live. Larry and others strongly recommended the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz, while some preferred the Hercules Game Theater XP or Audigy 2. Carl Ribbegaardh noted that infinite loops usually stem from chipset and graphics driver clashes.
  • Fixing distorted GPL sound with SB Live under Windows XP 2003-01-02 · 39 posts
Haqsau sought a fix for distorted GPL sound on an SB Live under XP. Suggestions included driver changes, converting sound files, replacing the card with an Audigy or Santa Cruz, and lowering hardware acceleration. Setting acceleration to 'Basic' worked for him and others, at some frame-rate cost.
  • Advice for a new sim racing PC in 2002 2002-08-20 · 27 posts
Ed Solheim asked what hardware to buy for a new rig. Advice covered Athlon XP versus Pentium 4, waiting for the Radeon 9700, Santa Cruz versus Game Theater XP sound cards, and Windows XP versus 98SE. He ordered an Athlon XP 2200+ with a GeForce4 Ti4400, and Larry warned that VisionTek had gone under.
  • Is upgrading to Windows XP worthwhile for sims? 2001-10-28 · 44 posts
Andi Cole asked whether Windows XP was a good upgrade from ME or 98. Many reported stable, painless installs, while others preferred to wait or stay on 98SE, and Voodoo Glide support under XP was debated. The thread became an argument about Windows ME's stability between Drag0n and Phillip Malphrus, plus tips on dual-booting and sound card issues in GPL.
