Flame warPirated Indianapolis track posted, and kill-file arguments

An anonymous poster uploaded a pirated Indianapolis track for NASCAR and IndyCar Racing II. Regulars condemned it as harmful to the group's relationship with Papyrus. Papyrus's Ed Martin added Tom Wardell to his kill file, which led to arguments over whether Tom was being blamed unfairly and a long side spat about the spelling of 'criticise'.

You would know what the problem is if you had been reading this group for a while. We have been very fortunate to have a dialogue with the people at Papyrus as well as Spectrum Holobyte. These people will not be happy to see there pirated software on this group. By posting the Indy track you have jeapordised this relationship for all of us. If this stupidity on your part causes us to lose this I think you are going to find yourself with many enemies. I would hope that Ed and Adam can find your identity and sue your ass. Thanks for nothing.
I think explaining all that was pointless. I also think it was a bad decision (very bad) to make that post in this group. Keep post of that type where they belong else you could wind up pissing off alot more people other than the ones in this group. We would'nt want to do that now would we... Rebel Warrior

Ed, Please look closer at the quotes, Tom was *flaming* the guy (Eggman71) who posted the Indy track. While Tom's posts may be of limited usefullness, I don't see why he, as a paying customer of Papyrus/SOL (to the best of my knowledge), should be cut off from your support offered here. Pick one or more: Model Rockets (competition-NERCB) / PCs (even Atari!) / Papyrus ICR-ICR2-NCR / Who needs a life when you have multiple non-lives?
>I could care less if this is you or someone who keeps posting under >your name. I welcome you to my kill file. this way, i'll never even >see another message from you & all the other Tom Wardell's. Don't worry too much, Ed. He wasn't particular adept at what he was doing. It looks like it must have taken him the better part of the day to do what he did, and even then it didn't get as far as my ISP, at least - a rather nice gentleman issued a bincancel to stop it propagating through the 'net. Not that he did it because he realised that it was infringing your copyright but simply because "eggman" was being a prat and posting a large binary to a discussion newsgroup! Richard

Let me first say that most of what Tom has to say here I usually do not agree with. This however seems to be someone taking heat for something they did not do. I seem to recall not so long ago the same thing happening to me. Which I might ad that when I e-mailed you Ed concerning that; I did'nt even get as much as a reply back. My point is; why should Tom be punished for the wrong doings of others? I agree that there are some bad apples in this group that love nothing more then causing problems but for the most part most people here try to help each other and learn new things by visiting this group. Tom is an example of someone that post to this group very often and while I generally don't agree with his views; he has the right to voice his views like everyone else. I do not think its fair for anyone to kill his post "based" on something he claims to have no involvement in including you. After all; he visits this group because he purchases and enjoys simulators produced by your company. That in itself should be enough for him to gain your respect and fair treatment. This is just my view because I had a hard time excepting your post on this matter. Anyone who disagrees is welcome to respond and I'm sure you will:) Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this and HAPPY RACING!!!!! Darrell

I would like to say as senior writer of Inside Nass 96' racing (inr), that not all people in the Nass 96' series are as closed minded as Tim. Poeple in this group need to: a: Forvive b: Forget c: Learn to help people become better posters instead of kicking them while their down. --Kai Fuller Senior Writer of INR My oppinoins are not always the oppinion of INR.
Or possibly... a) Stop posting binaries where they shouldn't b) Learn a little about what they're doing before doing it c) Show a little respect for other's time, feelings etc. (a) is a usenet thing, (b) and (c) are a common-sense thing - you don't need to spend time on the internet to grasp "netiquette". It's just "etiquette" practised on the 'net. Sadly no-one seems to know much about it anymore... Cheers! Would you care to expand and perhaps even point out the errors in my post? I`m willing to learn from you. Incidentally, "criticise" has a "z" in it.
>Incidentally, "criticise" has a "z" in it. Look at John's email address before making a fool of yourself. John lives in the UK, hence most definitely _NO_ 'z'. If you, as (presumably) an American wishes to use a 'z' then that is fine, but don't try and force it on those who invented the language (even if John is actually a Scot...) Cheers, Richard

I think everyone should announce kill file additions, to show the ***s they are not winning. But, do it like Ed does, do it in a funny way. Make a joke out of the situation, but still put him/her in your kill file. Ed cracked me up when he quoted: "I welcome you to my kill file. This way, I'll never even see another message from you & all the other Tom Wardell's. Hailing Frequences Closed." Mike Manthe 26 Aug 1996#335031
I didn't know that! Isn't this just cool? You can browse a newsgroup, and get an international spelling lesson at the same time! Since it's easy to forget that R.A.S. is world-wide, I'd like to take this opportunity to say HI to the whole planet! (Hi planet!) Mike
writes There's a saying that people are never quite so stupid as when they're trying to be smart. The word "criticise" generally only contains a "zee" when it's used in American English. In "English", criticise is more commonly spelt with an "s", although either version is perfectly correct - but you already knew that I'm sure.... As for the grammatical flaws in your previous post, if you're not sure enough of the accuracy of what you wrote to dismiss my comments out of hand, how can you be sure that what you wrote was correct? Or even to correct someone else's grammar? The point I was making, albeit somewhat obliquely, is that we're not here to nit-pick over one another's grammatical correctness or the lack thereof, we're here to talk racing. Live and let live. :) Cheers! >I think you`re wrong, old boy! >I am British and "criticize" is indeed spelt with a "z". Look it up. I seem to be getting a lot of practice at this....OK, I'm sorry. I have now looked it up and according to my dictionary the use of 's' or 'z' is optional. Therefore we're both wrong (and both right <g>). The 'z' has always looked like an americanism to me..... Cheers, Richard

<snip> Right On! When I'm racing, I can hardly talk, let alone work on grammar! Did you ever have your wife try to strike up a conversation when you're on lap 30? It just doesn't fly! ...or maybe YOU do...right off the next corner! I have enough trouble keeping my 'edge' without someone trying to have a chat about what color to paint the deck! :-) Does anyone else's wife do that to you? Mike -the deck will be white, BTW.
