Feel free to add, comment, whatever...

It is a fun game, but...
1) I wish you could race the AI with the slower cars
2) You need a REALLY FAST computer with a top of the like voodoo 2 or
rendition to get good framerates with top detail... I thouhg my p2 266
with a pure 3d would be able to handle the game... oh well

2) Something makes the game take a big framerate hit when racing a full
field of AI Cars... I dont think it's just the AI though... if I go to
the outside view of the car, my framerates increase by 7-10 fps

3) The AI STILL does that spin around in one spot they've always done...
they dont really STEER around the track... this is really noticable
around sharp turns, like the tight hairpins at Monoco... also, they give
up if they get stuck behind a stopped car, or get spun around... you
think they would be able to figure out how to back up and drive
around... compare to Viper Racing, where the cars actually steer, and if
they get stopped or turned aorund, they can get out.  I once ran a full
field Grand Prix race at monoco... only 1 or 2 guys finished because of
this.

4) No pitstops... even though they were rare, at least you could try to
repair damage done to cars...

PS... it IS still a great racing sim

You can, go to Alison Hine's site....dont have the URL handy, but its a link
off gpl.gamestats.com

Yes, this was known from the beginning.  You can not expect to run the top
of the line sim with a slower computer.  However, a p2 266 with a Voodoo1
should be able to get 36fps in training modes.  Its actually not the
graphics that kill most people, its the CPU intensive AI cars.

In addition to fast computers, such things as digitial soundcards, digital
game ports or usb controllers, etc will help too. Anything that frees the
CPU of dealing with certain aspects of the game.

No, it IS the AI cars. The more AI cars you have running the more individual
AI "clients" your computer has to keep track of.

And that would not be historically correct.

You are obviously a very poor historian.  Quoting history is supposed to
involve checking facts and analysing things, not spouting the popular
rhetoric or commercially-convenient spew of the day.

There's nothing historically incorrect about stopping at the pits
for repairs during the 1967 season. Granted they didn't have the
scheduled fuel and tire pitstops like modern F1, but stopping
to repair damage was not at all uncommon.

From the excellent site (http://www.i-way.co.uk/~isanski/home.htm)
with full race reports for the entire 1967 season, here's a rundown
of some of the stops from the US Grand Prix at Watkins Glen:

Ickx - steam was pouring from the breather (lost almost 1 lap),
subsequently stopped for same problem several times
Surtees - engine repairs (45 sec stop)
Surtees - two laps later - more engine repairs
Gurney - broken pin holding the lower wishbone
Stewart - off-track debris stuck in radiator inlets (we can all relate
        to that one!)
Brabham - tire puncture
Bonnier - bad handling with steering wheel
Surtees - two more stops to have water poured over the metering unit
        (to cool it down)
Clark - suspension problems (I think he stopped and had it quickly
examined, but the description is unclear)

Note: a few of these drivers even finished in the points -
Clark 1st, Brabham 5th, Bonnier 6th.

It certainly makes more sense (historically) to have a pit stop
repair feature than Shift-R!

If you have the mirrors set to show everything, try setting them to show
cars and tracks only, and uncheck all of the mirror textures.

Is 67's Rouen historically correct?
is shift-r historically correct?
Is Monza Glue guard-rails realistic?(curva grande)
And sorry, but you really could goto the pits if you had a flat tire and
change it.

Am I the only one bothered by the damage model?  The more I play it,
the worse it bothers me!  I can almost live with the damage I take,
but it seems the AI cars suffer little damage.  The damage model just
doesn't fit the rest of this wonderful sim.
I'm hoping someone will be able to tweak this in some way?
The AI cars seem to cheat to.  They surely don't seem to suffer from
cold tires!

That's because Le Mans didn't sell its rights. Rouen was right in 68.

I think not at all...

It would be better to have that option

On novice mode if the AI took realistic damage there would be none
left by the end of the race :-)

They do, just as we do.

Cheers!

I can confrim this (on a P200, 48MB RAm, 12MB Voodoo2).

This might be true, but I've been playing in pro short mode, with
realastic damage.  Is there a seperate damage setting for the AI?  I
surely wouldn't have missed that.

I'm not convinced of that. :-)

The AI start on cold tires just like the player.

OK, then explain this to me. When on a low 1:30 lap at Monza, while
practicing, I pass an AI car, who comes right out of the pits. The AI
car, with cold tyres I presume, outbrakes me in the Curve Grande!

After that, he cannot maintain the same speed as I do, well, for that
lap. This at Grand Prix mode.

BTW Great sim! Played Friday night untis 6:00 am, Saterday night until
8:00 am. (Twelve houres in a row). Ah well, who need sleep anyway :-)

Thanks Papyrus!
