I think alot of the reason the ratings are low is..... FOOTBALL. I know for
me that once football starts up, Nascar runs second.

Hey gents.
Larry, I don't watch NASCAR too much anymore, but I could almost swear I get
most of the race in 16:9 1080i HD. In-car camera shots and some others
revert to 4:3, but the race is 16:9. Maybe I can check again tomorrow.

That's kinda my point.

If it's being transmitted in HD, why isn't NBC broadcasting it in HD?

My local NBC channel and cable company.  definitely broadcasts HD so
they have the capability.

It's sad when you can watch a horrible 30 min sitcom in HD, but a major
sporting event comes through in SD 4:3.

I have an HD DVR with my cable company.  However, it's no Tivo and it's
the dumbest POS I've ever used in my life.  I won't bore you with the
details, but my old habits of starting the recording then watching from
the beginning after it's been recording for about an hour or so isn't
feasible with thia pile of junk.

I left DirecTV and my DirecTivo (extremely hesitently) after being with
them from the very beginning solely because of the HD/DVR situation with
DirecTv.  As soon as the boxes are down to sub-trump pricing levels I'm
going back.

No, they didnt. But they made it better for a few fans. (knowingly or not).
He's not blind, but regular TV only has so much resolution and "framerate".
Players are faster, and he slowed way down. The bigger TV didnt help much,
and im not popping for a 65" HDTV for his hockey habit. My apologies to you
and the rest of the group for being a bit of an A-hole. Taking care of your
elders is a bit new to me.

Well Larry, I checked and the entire broadcast was in 4:3 for me, too. I
must have been thinking of TNT or something. I had to change to 480p and
zoom mode to fill the screen, and it's just not the same as 1080i. Lucky for
me, I'm in New England so I had plenty to watch with the Red Sox and
Patriots.
NASCAR if furiously trying to compete with the NFL for Fall ratings. You'd
think they'd put a little pressure on NBC to broadcast HD in 16:9. Would you
laugh too hard if I said NASCAR must know what they're doing?
