N4- How long are we supposed to wait?

>Joe, would the copy protection be there if piracy was not so huge?

Probably not. But that doesn't show that copy-protection prevents any
piracy at all.

The only partially effective anti-piracy technique is legal action,
such as the massive lawsuit launched against several individuals
yesterday. That makes sense, it's a reasonable way to attack the
problem. It creates a real deterrent, and it only targets the pirates,
not customers.

That is BS.

Burners are becoming so common in households today.

My mother in law knows how to make a music cd and knows how to copy a cd...
do you think she has any clue what a no-cd crack is?  She would probably
think it is some kind of drug.

heh, they are charging 4 individuals out of the 100,000+ that pirate
software

Hmmm, I did the same and it works, even online.  I've installed the
game from the Sierra disc, made a copy with Adaptec's CD Copier (from
Easy CD Creator 3.5, it came with my HP 7500 drive), and the copy
works to start the game and run the game online.  Maybe I can't
install from it, but I don't need it for that.  Amazing what you can
do if you just try it (thanks, Don).  :)

True, but just the risk of prosecution can make a big difference.

I can see how this could be a problem.  In a case like this, it depends on
whether the manufacturer wants to spend resources trying to fix a problem that
only 2% of the users have...

But the crooks don't have any problem cracking every new game that comes
